Paver Patios, Driveways, and Walkways Built on a Base That Won't Shift
$12 to $25 per square foot installed. Every paver project starts with a 6-inch compacted limerock base because Florida's sandy soil shifts under weight. Hundreds of colors, patterns, and textures to choose from. 25 to 50 year lifespan.
90% of Paver Failures in Florida Come From Bad Base Prep
Pavers themselves are practically indestructible. Rated at 8,000+ PSI compressive strength, they handle vehicle weight, Florida heat, and decades of foot traffic without cracking. What fails is what is underneath them.
Florida's sandy soil compresses unevenly under load. A patio installed on a thin sand base or directly on native soil will develop dips, shifts, and uneven spots within 2 to 3 years. Rain washes the sand out from between pavers. The surface becomes a trip hazard that you paid thousands of dollars for.
We excavate to stable subsoil and install a minimum 6-inch compacted limerock base. Limerock is the same material used under Pinellas County roads. When compacted in lifts with a plate compactor, it creates a rigid, water-resistant platform that distributes weight evenly and does not shift. On top of that goes a 1-inch screeded bedding layer of concrete sand. Then the pavers. This three-layer system is why our installations stay flat for decades.
Where We Install Pavers Across Pinellas County
Patios
The most popular paver application. 200 to 600 sqft outdoor living areas with endless pattern options. From simple running bond to intricate herringbone and circular designs. Pair with seat walls and fire pits for complete outdoor spaces. $12-$20/sqft for standard pavers, $18-$25/sqft for premium styles.
Driveways
Paver driveways handle vehicle weight when installed on a proper base. We use an 8-inch compacted base (thicker than patios) and interlocking pavers rated for vehicular traffic. Individual pavers flex with tree root movement instead of cracking like poured concrete. $15-$25/sqft for driveway-rated installations.
Walkways
Connect your driveway to front door, patio to pool, or house to garden features. Properly designed walkways improve curb appeal and eliminate the muddy paths people naturally wear across lawns. 3 to 4 feet wide is standard for comfortable single-file walking. $12-$18/sqft installed.
Pool Decks
Pavers and travertine provide a non-slip surface around pools. Light colors stay cooler barefoot than dark pavers or stamped concrete. We install with coping stones at the pool edge for a finished, safe transition. Paver pool decks also drain better than poured concrete, reducing standing water hazards.
Outdoor Living Spaces
Combined patio, walkway, and seat wall installations that create complete outdoor rooms. We design the layout so all elements work together visually and functionally. Many projects include fire pits, outdoor kitchen pads, and garden border walls using matching paver and block materials.
Steps and Landings
Paver steps handle grade changes between patio levels, yard to patio transitions, and front entry approaches. Built on concrete footings with bullnose paver treads and matching risers. Proper step construction includes drainage behind each tread to prevent water pooling and frost heave.

$12-$25/sqft installed. A 300 sqft patio: $3,600-$7,500. A 400 sqft driveway: $6,000-$10,000. Includes excavation, 6-inch limerock base, bedding sand, pavers, edge restraint, and polymeric sand.
25-50 years on proper base. The pavers are rated 8,000+ PSI. Failures come from bad base prep, not the pavers. Our 6-inch compacted limerock base prevents settling.
Pavers are better for Florida. They flex with tree root growth, drain between joints, and do not crack from heat expansion. If one paver shifts, you lift and reset it. A cracked concrete slab needs full demolition.
Patios: 3-5 days. Driveways: 4-7 days. Walkways: 1-2 days. Includes excavation, base, bedding, pavers, cutting, edge restraint, and polymeric sand.
All hardscapes get warm. Lighter colors stay 10-15 degrees cooler. For pool decks, we recommend light pavers or travertine which stays noticeably cooler barefoot.
