Hardscape Installer in St. Petersburg Who Builds on a Real Base

The difference between a hardscape that lasts 5 years and one that lasts 50 is what is underneath it. We excavate, compact limerock, and build every project on a base engineered for Florida's sandy, shifting soil. Patios, walls, fire pits, outdoor kitchens.

How to Pick a Hardscape Installer Who Will Not Waste Your Money

Pinellas County is full of contractors who install pavers on 2 inches of sand and call it done. It looks great for 6 months. Then the sand washes out, the pavers shift, and you have a $10,000 trip hazard in your backyard. The installer is long gone.

Here is what to look for when hiring a hardscape installer in St. Petersburg:

  • Base depth matters -- Ask what base material they use and how deep. The answer should be 6 inches minimum of compacted limerock for patios, 8 inches for driveways. If they say "sand" or "3 inches," keep looking
  • Compaction method matters -- Limerock must be compacted in lifts with a plate compactor. Dumping 6 inches and compacting the top does not compact the bottom. Ask about their compaction process
  • Edge restraint matters -- Pavers need aluminum or concrete edge restraint spiked into the base. Without it, the edges creep outward and joints open up. Snap edging held by landscape spikes is not sufficient
  • Polymeric sand matters -- Regular sand washes out of joints. Polymeric sand hardens when wet and locks pavers in place. It costs more. It is worth it. Ask what joint material they use

We do all four correctly on every project. That is why our hardscapes stay flat and stable while cheap installations fall apart within a few years. See our full hardscaping services or paver installation details.

Hardscape Installer Questions

Look for proper base prep (6-inch compacted limerock minimum), documented local experience, and willingness to show recent work. Avoid thin bases and sand-only installations.

Paver patios, driveways, walkways, pool decks, retaining walls, seat walls, fire pits, outdoor kitchens, and steps. Design, permitting, and construction under one contract.

Pavers: $12-$25/sqft. Walls: $25-$60/sqft face. Fire pits from $2,500. Outdoor kitchens from $8,000. Includes all materials, labor, base prep, and finishing.

Florida does not require a specific hardscape license. But outdoor kitchens with gas, electric, or plumbing need licensed trades. Walls over 4 feet may need engineering. We coordinate all requirements.
